Matthew Abendroth, DO, ABFM, ABLM, ABOIM, FMCP-M

Dr. Matthew Abendroth is a quadruple-board-certified physician at Abendroth Modern Medicine, his direct primary care practice in Des Moines.

Abendroth has practiced outpatient medicine in Des Moines since 2014, first as a family physician at UnityPoint Clinic and then at his own clinic, Sana Vita Health, which was Iowa's first Direct Primary Care practice. He also co-founded Highland Provider Staffing, through which he still works as an emergency medicine physician and hospitalist at critical access hospitals across the state.

Watching the toll that unhealthy lifestyle choices take on patients convinced him that reactive, purely sick-care medicine had real limits. That conviction led him to pursue fellowship training and board certifications in lifestyle, integrative, and functional medicine, fields that let him dig into prevention and root causes rather than just symptoms.

Family time, strength training, cooking, sailing, and manual transmission sports cars fill out his life away from the clinic.
