Nicole Hemkes

Dr. Nicole Hemkes practices family medicine at Advocate MD's Janesville Clinic. She grew up in Orlando and studied biology with distinction at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before earning her medical degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa. She completed her family medicine residency at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem.

Over her first decade in practice, Hemkes worked in emergency departments, served as a hospitalist, and saw patients in traditional outpatient clinics, moving between settings as different as inner-city Chicago and rural Alaska. She credits that range of experience with sharpening her skills and deepening her empathy for patients. After ten years as an employed physician, she discovered Direct Primary Care and was drawn to a model that puts more power in the hands of both doctor and patient, advocating for each patient the way she would for her own family.

Hemkes lives in Madison with her two young daughters, Margo and Mona, and spends her free time running, doing pilates, gardening, and exploring Wisconsin with them.
