Nicole Hemkes
Dr. Nicole Hemkes is a family medicine physician at Advocate MD in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. She grew up in Orlando, Florida, before heading to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for her undergraduate degree in biology. From there she went to the University of South Florida for medical school, then to Wake Forest University for her family medicine residency in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Over her first decade of practice, Dr. Hemkes worked across a wide range of settings, from hospital emergency departments and inpatient wards to outpatient family medicine clinics. She practiced in places as different as inner-city Chicago and rural Alaska. That variety, she believes, sharpened her clinical skills and made her a more empathetic doctor. After a decade as an employed physician, she was drawn to direct primary care because it lets her advocate for patients the way she would for her own family.
She lives in Madison with her two young daughters, Margo and Mona, and spends her free time running, doing pilates, gardening, and exploring Wisconsin with her family.
