Adam Smith, APRN

Adam Smith is a nurse practitioner at Blackwater Health in Milton. He grew up in a small town much like it, and going into nursing he wanted to serve a community just that size.

He earned his BSN from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2009 and followed it with an MSN there in 2011, then earned AANP certification in 2012. Over more than 13 years as a practicing nurse practitioner he has worked across rural clinics, emergency rooms, house calls, retail health, and correctional medicine. That range showed him how much conventional care gets pulled toward hitting numbers rather than helping the person in front of you, often at the cost of the outcomes that actually matter. Bringing that experience home to Milton, he's aiming to put the focus back on the patient.

He lives in Milton with his wife Brandy, their son and daughter, and three dogs who never miss a chance to get out on the water.
