About William B. Burkhart

Dr. William Burkhart is a board-certified family medicine physician and the founder of Burkhart Direct Family Care in Knoxville. Before turning to medicine, he spent several years as a band director, general music teacher, and orchestral conductor, following a bachelor's degree in Music Education he earned at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 2008.

He went on to graduate from ETSU Quillen College of Medicine in 2019 and completed his residency in family medicine at UMKC in Kansas City, Missouri, in 2022. That same year he opened Burkhart Direct Family Care, continuing his family's long history in primary care while stepping into the Direct Primary Care movement.

His path from the podium to the exam room is an unusual one, and it shows in a practice built by someone who spent years learning to listen before he ever picked up a stethoscope.
