Michael Ciampi, MD

Michael Ciampi leads Ciampi Family Practice in South Portland, Maine, the practice he took over from his father, Louis Ciampi, upon his retirement. A Portland native and Cheverus High School graduate, he went on to earn degrees from the College of the Holy Cross and Tufts University School of Medicine before completing his internship and residency at the Naval Hospital in Pensacola, Florida. He then served seven years in the U.S. Navy, reaching the rank of lieutenant commander before returning home to Maine.

In April 2013, frustrated with what he saw as a dysfunctional health care finance system, Ciampi took his practice out of third party payments, including commercial insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid, choosing instead to contract directly with patients. Since then he has become a vocal advocate for Direct Primary Care, drawing coverage from national outlets including Fox News, Fox Business, and CNN.

He is married with four children and a granddaughter and grandson.
