David Townsend, MD is a native of Augusta, GA, and obtained his undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a double-major in biology and psychology.He pursued his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, graduating in 2005 at the top of his class with a 4.0 average.David completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC, and was selected to be an Assistant Chief of Medicine following graduation from residency. David remained on the Internal Medicine faculty at Wake Forest University until 2013, when he and his growing family moved to Athens, GA to be closer to family.He has been practicing Internal Medicine here in Athens since then.He is also an Associate Professor of Medicine with the AU/UGA Medical Partnership, where he teaches clinical skills to medical students. David has a beautiful wife and four amazing children, and loves spending time with his family.David and his family also have four dogs and two cats, and serve as a foster home for dogs in need of adoption.They are active members at Watkinsville First Baptist Church.David has a special interest in nutrition and fitness, and also loves sports and coaching youth sports (particularly basketball).
