David Townsend

Dr. David Townsend practices internal medicine at Classic Direct Primary Care in Watkinsville, Georgia. Raised in Augusta, he graduated summa cum laude from the University of Georgia with a double major in biology and psychology, and earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia in 2005, finishing at the top of his class.

He trained in internal medicine at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, then stayed on as Assistant Chief of Medicine until 2013, when he and his growing family moved to Athens to be closer to relatives. Townsend has practiced internal medicine there since, and also teaches clinical skills to medical students as an Associate Professor with the AU/UGA Medical Partnership.

Townsend and his wife have four children, four dogs, and two cats, and the family fosters dogs awaiting adoption. Active members of Watkinsville First Baptist Church, he's also interested in nutrition and fitness and enjoys coaching youth sports, especially basketball.
