Anup Desai, MD, PhD

Dr. Desai, born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, followed in his mother's footsteps to provide compassionate care. He completed a combined M.D./Ph.D. program and attended residency at the University of Pennsylvania before moving to California. With 20 years of medical experience in various settings, Dr. Desai felt constrained by high patient volumes and administrative demands. This led him to establish his own direct primary care practice, prioritizing patient-doctor relationships free from insurance interference. His practice operates on a simple monthly membership fee, ensuring unhurried visits and personalized care. Dr. Desai also serves as a medical advocate, guiding patients through the complexities of the healthcare system. He resides in Santa Cruz with his wife and daughters, embracing a simple lifestyle and enjoying the outdoors. Surfing, mountain biking, hiking, and skiing are among his passions since moving to California.
