Michael Lovelace, MBA, MD

Dr. Michael Lovelace practices family medicine at Derby City DPC in Louisville. He grew up in a small town in upstate New York along the Hudson River. After high school, he traded his snow shovel for sunshine.

His route to medicine ran through business first. He studied finance at Loyola University in New Orleans and earned an MBA at Arizona State University. He went on to work as a financial analyst for a Fortune 500 company, a project manager for a non-profit institute, and the operator of a family plant nursery with 45 employees. A stretch working at a cancer research institute is what pushed him to go back to school and become a physician instead. He earned his medical degree at the University of Louisville and trained in Family Medicine in Columbia, South Carolina, drawn to the wide range of illness the specialty lets him treat. That business background shaped his practice too. He opened a direct primary care practice believing it gives him the best chance to truly connect with patients while saving them money on medications and labs.

Golf, running and gardening fill his time away from the clinic, along with his wife Rebecca, their two young children John Michael and Aly Claire, and their rescue dog Roux.
