Thomas Ling

Dr. Thomas Ling is an internal medicine physician at Docs by the Bay DPC in Petoskey, Michigan. He grew up in the Birmingham and Troy area north of Detroit and graduated from Birmingham Seaholm High School. He studied psychology at the University of Michigan, then went to medical school at Wayne State University and trained in adult healthcare at Royal Oak Beaumont.

Northern Michigan already felt familiar to him, from childhood summers at the family cabin near Johannesburg to camping trips near Sleeping Bear Dunes with his wife, Mary. When the Burns Clinic in Petoskey offered him a position after his first interview, he took it. Twenty years of traditional internal medicine there gave way to seven years of hospital-based care and then eight years of outpatient practice at Charlevoix Primary Care. He has always found the work rewarding, comparing each case to a puzzle that needs a unifying diagnosis.

Ling and Mary have three adult children and welcomed their first grandchild, Wesley, in 2024. He stays active with golf, biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing, and woodworking.
