David Gilbert, MD

David Gilbert is a family medicine physician and owner of Downeast Primary Care in Greenville. A Pitt County native, he grew up in Winterville, graduated from Greenville Christian Academy, and earned his undergraduate degree in neuroscience in 2005 before finishing his MD at ECU's Brody School of Medicine in 2010.

He trained in family medicine at the University of Louisville, serving as chief resident, then spent a decade at Brody School of Medicine teaching, directing courses and clerkships, and serving as interim associate dean for medical education while continuing to see patients. Frustrated by the barriers of traditional medicine, he moved into direct primary care, where he calls himself a 'yes and' doctor, blending pharmaceutical, procedural, lifestyle, and alternative approaches so patients understand every option available to them.

He and his wife, Heather, homeschool their two daughters. He fishes, powerlifts, watches F1, and is learning to garden.
