Dr. Juana was born and raised in Cameron County, Texas, part of the Rio Grande Valley. After going away to college to study nursing at the University of Iowa and working in Illinois, she moved to Valparaiso, where she has lived since 2006 with her husband and two children. She speaks fluent Spanish.As a Roman Catholic, Dr. Juana believes that the first principle of Christian morality, the Law of Love, should guide the practice of both faith and healing, and lead us to treat all people with compassion.She completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree at Valparaiso University and board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2015. She had 15 years of clinical nursing experience in critical care settings including intensive care and emergency departments prior to earning her doctorate.Dr. Juana believes that effective healing requires time to build direct therapeutic relationships with patients. With so many hard working people struggling with illness, long waits, and rushed visits, Dr. Juana strives to ensure that her every decision serves to make quality primary care more personal, convenient and valuable.
