Salwa Bakkali-Derksen Salwa Bakkali-Derksen, DO

Dr. Salwa Bakkali-Derksen is an internal medicine physician at Empower Wellness Center- Direct Primary Care in Northfield. She focuses on diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and heart disease, with a particular interest in rheumatology, naturopathic medicine, and women's health.

She spent over a decade working as both a hospitalist and an outpatient clinician, including the last seven years at Mayo Clinic, and has also taken on quality assurance, teaching, and mentorship roles along the way. Her path to medicine included degrees in computer and biological sciences before she earned her Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine, and her clinical interests now include osteopathic manipulation and hormone replacement therapy. Having practiced across hospital systems in several states, she is fluent in three languages, which helps her connect with a wide range of patients.

She and her four active children keep busy with travel, hiking, CrossFit, and running.
