Alejandra Alvarez, MD

Dr. Alejandra Alvarez is the primary care physician at EmpowerMed Direct Primary Care in Miami. She earned her medical degree from the Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, where classmates and faculty recognized her with the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award for the way she cared for patients. As a student she helped run health fairs, built educational materials for a local free clinic, and helped start a student-run clinic at a women's shelter.

She completed her family medicine residency at the Memorial Hermann Family Medicine Program in Sugar Land, Texas, learning to care for patients at every stage of life, and was later honored with a resident teaching excellence award for mentoring students and colleagues. After residency she moved back to her hometown of Miami to be near family and childhood friends. She has spent years practicing primary care and also works as a hospice physician.
