Alejandra Alvarez, MD

Dr. Alejandra Alvarez is the dedicated primary care physician at EmpowerMed DPC and was granted her medical degree by the Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine in Miami, Florida.

During her time as a medical student she carried several leadership positions in student organizations which placed her in the unique position to develop community service projects. These included hosting health fairs, developing educational health curriculum for patients of a local free clinic, and establishing a student-run health clinic at a local women's shelter.

She was presented with several community service awards by the college of medicine in recognition of her accomplishments. As a graduating medical student she was bestowed with the Leonard Tow Humanism In Medicine Award (presented by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation) as nominated by her faculty and peers for her exemplary humanism in the care of patients.

Dr. Alvarez continued her post-graduate education at the Memorial Hermann Family Medicine Program in Sugar Land, Texas. During her residency she honed her skills as a family doctor, learning to care for patients through every stage of life.

She also excelled at sharing her knowledge with her colleagues and educating medical students. As a graduating resident she was conferred with the John M. Passmore Jr. MD Resident Teaching Excellence Award.

Upon completion of her family medicine specialty training, Dr. Alvarez moved back to her hometown of Miami, Florida to be closer to her family and childhood friends. For several years she worked as a primary care doctor in the traditional health care system. She also works as a hospice physician.
