Dr. Paul Schattauer, known to patients as Dr. Paul, is a board-certified family physician and the founder of Green Medicine in Oak Park. He has practiced family medicine since 1987, earning his medical degree from the University of Iowa School of Medicine and completing his residency in family practice at St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee. Along the way he spent a year studying theology at Yale Divinity School.
His path into medicine started early, when he volunteered at an obstetrical clinic in Lima, Peru just out of college, working with an underserved population there. That experience has shaped a career built around childbearing families. He delivered babies at home for 23 years and still cares for newborns, infants, and their families today, and in 2010 the Chicago Area Breastfeeding Coalition gave him its Breastfeeding Friendly Doctor's Award. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Medicine.
A native of Iowa, Dr. Paul has lived in the Chicago area since 1987. He and his wife, Marcia, have made their home in Oak Park since 2002 with their two sons, Spencer and Lucas.
