Randolph Merrick, MD

Dr. Randolph Merrick is a board-certified family medicine physician and Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians at Innovative Healthcare and Laser Therapy in Orange, Virginia.

He earned his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1985 and trained in family medicine at Harrisburg Hospital, now part of Pennsylvania State University Health Sciences. First certified in family medicine in 1988, he most recently recertified in 2010. He is also certified in laser therapy, or photobiomodulation, and serves as treasurer on the Board of Directors of the North American Association of Photobiomodulation, lecturing on its clinical uses both nationally and internationally. Dr. Merrick teaches as an assistant clinical professor in VCU's Department of Family Medicine, and he founded and serves as president of the Orange County Free Clinic. That teaching and community work have brought him VCU's Outstanding Teachers Award, an international award for excellence in laser therapy, and honors from the Virginia Academy of Family Physicians as both Family Physician of the Year and Family Physician Volunteer of the Year.

He was born and raised on a farm near Gordonsville in Orange County, educated locally at Grymes School and Woodberry Forest School before earning a zoology degree, with coursework in German, from the University of Washington in Seattle.
