Nicole Allen, DO

Dr. Allen is a board-certified family physician and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (FAAFP). She graduated magna cum laude from North Carolina State University with a degree in biological sciences and minors in genetics and health, medicine, and human values.

After two formative years working as a medical assistant at Cary Dermatology, Dr. Allen enrolled at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where she graduated magna cum laude in 2016.

Dr. Allen completed her family medicine residency at Spartanburg Regional, where she was honored with the Resident Teacher of the Year Award in recognition of her commitment to medical education and mentorship. She came to Mitchell County in 2019 to practice full-spectrum rural family medicine.

In 2022, Dr. Allen completed a Rural Medicine Fellowship at Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) in Asheville, North Carolina. From 2022 to 2023, Dr. Allen served as an assistant medical director.

She has also served as a clinical preceptor for UNC, MAHEC, WNC Heart interns, and Kenan Scholars since beginning practice in Western North Carolina. Dr. Allen has presented on rural healthcare topics, including medication access and maternal-child health in rural Appalachia.

In 2026, Dr. Allen founded Mountain Roots Direct Primary Care with a vision of bringing personalized, relationship-based healthcare back to the heart of rural medicine.
