Laura Jordhen is a family medicine physician at Noble Journey Primary Care in Vancouver, focused on building long-term relationships with her patients, and she also teaches physicians and medical students how to bring empathy and compassion into the exam room.
She favors treatment that is effective while minimizing risk, guided by strong scientific evidence but shaped around each patient's own life. Family medicine, she believes, works best when it connects medical care to how someone actually lives, and community and purpose can matter as much as any medication. She's also committed to questioning the assumptions that have shaped modern medicine and helping physicians stay human in their work.
She studied at Smith College in Massachusetts before returning to Oregon for medical school, where a year in India led her to meet her husband, who is from Tibet. Their two sons arrived during her residency in Wisconsin and later in Vancouver, and the family are devoted WSU Cougars.
