Growing up on a family farm in rural upstate New York left Dr. Anna Mirer, a family physician at Presence Primary Care in Milwaukee, describing herself as the uncreative black sheep among a family of artists. She made her way through an eventful adolescence in New York City before finishing college, taught Head Start in New Mexico, and earned a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at UC Berkeley. From there she spent years in the MD-PhD program at UW-Madison, training that carried her through Family Medicine residency and, eventually, a stint in corporate medicine before she left to start her own Direct Primary Care practice.
Family medicine suits her because there is always something new to learn, and she says she copes poorly with boredom. Her interests include reproductive health, care for neurodivergent patients, gender affirming care, size-neutral medicine, mental health, and opioid use disorder treatment.
She reads speculative fiction, loves musicals and dogs, and holds her own at pub trivia. She is upfront that she swears, so patients who would rather she didn't should just let her know.
