Neeta Hillman, MD

Let me introduce myself. I am Neeta Hillman, a board certified Internal Medicine physician with a passion for restoring hope for healing in patients who are ready for change. I was introduced to the concept of disease reversal and prevention in residency by a beloved physician and his wife and it changed the way I practiced medicine forever.

Working as a hospitalist, I learned the importance of taking time for patient education, helping patients and their families understand their disease processes, their medications, why they were suffering complications and the importance of communicating each aspect of the care plan. Hospitalized patients had more time on their hands to think about their health and ask questions. We would dialogue about prevention of disease but also the amazing God given capacity of the body to heal. It was wonderful to hear them say "Wow, I never understood why I was … but now I do… now I know what to do."

Hospital medicine also gave me a picture of the importance of compassionately walking with patients in their journey of health, even if our views on life and health were divergent. Connection was important and many of my patients were walking alone. Fast forward to 2012, where I had the opportunity to concurrently work directly with patients in a lifestyle medicine center and do hospital work.

It was powerful to see patient's blood pressures improve, blood sugars normalizing and unstable blood sugars stabilizing for the first time. Patients were able to decrease or stop medications intelligently, chronic pain patients were decreasing their narcotic pain medication usage and walking with joy for the first time. I saw reversal of chronic kidney disease and even peripheral neuropathy patients gaining back sensation in their feet as they applied simple health principles available to anyone in their home (in as little as 18 days!).

Jim, my husband, and I took these principles on missions overseas to remote areas but also here in the US through AMEN free clinics and Pathway to Health free comprehensive free clinic. These experiences challenged me to find ways to make lifestyle changes accessible to people
