Joel Schumacher, MD

Dr. Joel Schumacher is a board-certified family physician at Schumacher Family Medicine in Plymouth, Indiana.

He began practicing in Plymouth in 1995, joining Dr. Kent Guild after finishing his training as chief resident at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis. In 2013 he left traditional primary care to help pioneer an employer-based healthcare model in northern Indiana, and that work is where his passion for Direct Primary Care took hold. He returned to Plymouth in 2017 to open Schumacher Family Medicine, bringing DPC to Marshall County and restoring the old-fashioned doctor-patient relationship at a lower out-of-pocket cost.

Joel grew up in a small town near Fort Wayne, where he quarterbacked the football team and ran hurdles in track. He now lives on a farm west of Plymouth with a few horses, chickens, a dog and more barn cats than he'd like. He and his wife Lynn have been married more than 30 years and have three children.
