John Hayes Jr., MD

John Hayes Jr., known around South Shore Direct Primary Care in Marshfield, Massachusetts as Dr. Hayes, spent more than 30 years as a chiropractor before deciding, in his 50s, to go to medical school.

His path into healthcare started in his early twenties, when the care a chiropractor gave him for an injury left a lasting impression. That experience grew into a chiropractic practice that began in Norwell and moved to Marshfield in 2015, alongside South Shore Rehabilitation, a multidisciplinary rehab facility he helped open back in the 1980s. Along the way he earned a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedists (D.A.B.C.O.) and a master's degree in human nutrition from the University of Bridgeport.

About 25 years into that chiropractic career, a family member's question about a mother's neuropathy sent him deep into studying the condition's many forms and causes. He and his longtime partner, together since they were seventeen, built much of that history side by side.
