When setting out to become a doctor, I was driven by a love of science, the joy of sharing it, and the satisfaction of seeing it in action. I wanted a profession where I could take my knowledge and help people in a profound way.
I was inspired by the examples of Doc Baker from Little House on the Prairie making house calls, and my Grandfather's GP clinic in Danville, Virginia, which had the first desegregated waiting room in town. He loved his patients, and they loved him. These examples formed the foundation of what I thought being a doctor was all about.
After medical school, I served in Naval Medicine, training as an Internist and practicing Primary Care. After a decade of naval service, I have come to understand the frustrations of traditional healthcare models and am committed to practicing medicine in a way that prioritizes patient care and physician well-being.
