Alison Iser, MD

I have always had a passion for medicine. I chose Family Medicine, a path that afforded exposure to a variety of issues and stood out to me as the most inclusive form of medicine. Family medicine encapsulates a bit of all of the disciplines we learned as students and views each patient as a whole person within their community rather than as a set of organ systems.

Over the past twenty years, I've worked in a variety of healthcare settings, including a decade of academic University-based practice with a satellite clinic in downtown Lexington, an occupational and travel medicine clinic, a hospital-based practice, an integrative medicine department, and a veterans' health center.

Like many of my colleagues, I have become increasingly disheartened by the corporatization of our current healthcare system. I've witnessed patients', friends', and family's struggles for physician access and continuity and recognized a need for simplified primary care. Direct Primary Care is an evolving strategy that addresses many of the struggles faced by patients and doctors alike. The realization that I could actually practice medicine the way I had always imagined was liberating.

I look forward to having the opportunity to form authentic connections, to be able to take time to listen to my patients, to collaborate and problem-solve together, to come up with solutions suited to each patient and their individual circumstances. Rather than a "pill for every problem," I believe in the power of lifestyle to effect positive change in many health-care outcomes.

I practice evidence-based medicine and am open to integrative and holistic modalities. I strive to offer a down-to-earth, non-judgemental manner and to be a fierce advocate for my patients. I am open to patients from all racial, religious, and ethnic groups, sexual orientations, gender identities, body types, and abilities.
