Katherine Abbott, MD

Dr. Katherine Abbott is a pediatrician at Shining Star Pediatrics in Louisville, Kentucky. A Louisville native, she earned her biology degree and went to medical school at the University of Louisville, then trained in pediatrics at the former Kosair Children's Hospital, finishing her residency in 1999.

She practiced pediatrics in the area for more than 25 years, first with Springs Pediatrics, then Louisville Area Pediatrics, and later Norton Children's Medical Group, before opening Shining Star Pediatrics in 2024. Growing frustrated with the limits of corporate medicine, she wanted more autonomy and closer relationships with her patients, and direct primary care offered a way to get there.

She decided she wanted to be a doctor around age 4, inspired by her own family practice doctor. Her own experience with untreated ADD and a math disability later drew her toward treating kids with ADHD, learning differences, anxiety and autism. Art, Lego building, decorating and gardening fill her free time.
